<p>Plants in the UK under this name seem to be identical to the best forms of <em>L. japonica</em> var. <em>chinensis</em>. So, it is said to be the Queen of the purple leaf forms.</p>

indicates its origin, the south-western province of Ireland called Munster.</p>

The leaves are mid green.</p>
<p>It grows in the shape of a column: the young shoots develop by turning their tips inwards towards the plant, thus reducing its volume. It can be grown in any type of soil providing it is well drained, and planted in sunny position or half shade,</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>San Diego Honeysuckle</p>
<p>Southern or chaparral honeysuckle is a straggling evergreen shrub that growsto 1 or 2 m high, is somewhat woody at the base, and generally climbs or reclines on other shrubs. Its leaves are widely elliptic to round-ovate, entire-margined, subglabrous to whitish-pubescent beneath and sometimes revolute. The upper pairs of leaves are not fused around the stem as they are in <em>L. interrupta</em>.  The flowers are in small whorls along a spike. The calyx tube is ovoid, very short, and minutely 5-cleft.  The corolla is cream-colored to yellowish,  The fruit is a yellow or reddish berry.</p>
<p>Nativa in North America: United States. Endemic to California. On the lower dry slopes of the mountains near Santa Barbara and Santa Catalina Island, High Sierra Nevada, Tehachapi Mountain Area, Central Western California and Southwestern California.</p>

Flowers in a stalkless whorl, pendulous. Corolla funnel shaped, 2.5 to 3.5 cm long, yellow, sometimes with reddish spot. Not scented.<br />
Fruits red.<br />
China: Guizhou and Sichuan province near the border of Xizang and Tibet frontier.</p>
<p>Needs a dry site in shade and a well drained soil with its roots in the shade and protection against cold wind. Will not tolerate water-logged soil. This very unusual species is not widely in cultivation, but needs more attention.</p>
